Audition Dates!

Auditions for the fall musical, Grease!, will be held on September 22 and 23. We will provide the audition materials.
Auditions for the district musical, TBA, will be held December 1 and 2 with callbacks on December 3. You will need to have either a song or a monologue prepared. I can't remember which. I'll find out and update the post
Auditions for the student directed show will be March 2 and 3.

Next Years Season

The first show of the 2009-2010 school year, also the first show produced by the brand new Repertory Theatre class, will be Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire. The show will be performed in the auditorium at 7:00 on October 1, 2, and 3. Rabbit Hole is a drama about a family dealing with grief after the death of a child. Sounds depressing, right? Well it is. It's also funny and brilliant and so honest and unsentimental that watching it left me breathless. It will be a challenge for student actors to perform these roles, but I've seen high school actors do it. If they can, we can!
Theatre at Heights will continue with the musical Grease! The vocal talent that we have at Heights continues to amaze me and I am sure that we will have increasing participation once again. Grease! will be performed in the auditorium on November 20, 21, and 22. We are also going to have a matinee on the 19th that we will invite middle school drama students from our feeder schools to see a dress rehearsal.
On March 4, 5, and 6 we plan to perform Boeing Boeing as the second show from the Repertory Theatre class. Last year we were unable to obtain the rights for this comedy. This year (I hope) will be different.
The fourth show will be be April 29, 30, and May 1. Big changes are in store for this show this year. Originally a show only open to members of the Thespian Troupe, we have been moving slowly toward a more open audition process in past years. I see this continuing. Also, this year the show will not be directed by the Thespian President. She wants to try out! The show will still be student directed, but by the Thespian Vice President.
A year of changes is ahead, it will be exciting!

Why this blog is here

Wichita High School Heights Theatre, International Thespian Troupe #923, and Stuart Graham are committed to creating theatre that is educational, entertaining, and ever increasing in quality. Preparation for next school years show's are under way. Student performers will gain skills in character research and creation as well as other theatrical skills involved with the production. Student technicians will learn about theatre carpentry (different from regular carpentry in that you don't build things to last for years, only weeks), lighting design, scene painting, make-up design and application, marketing and graphic design, and business applications for running the box office. Every show is an opportunity for students to experience the vast array of skills necessary for success not just in theatre, but in everyday life as well.
